Abstract

Aim. To review results of laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomies (LSH) and evaluate uterine weight’s impact on surgery success. Methods. The clinical data of 187 patients who undergone LSH in Vilnius City Clinical Hospital in 2016–2018 was evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided into two groups according to uterine weight (1st group – ≥500 g (n=59), 2nd group – <500 g (n=128)). Statistical analysis of medical data was performed. The difference was considered statistically significant when p<0.05. Results. The mean operation time was longer (p<0.001) and the rates of intra–operative blood loss were higher (p>0.05) in the group of larger uteri but there was no statistically significant correlation between larger uterus and increased risk of complication. The length of hospital stay and intra-operative complication rate were similar for the two study cohorts. Conclusions. Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy is a minimally invasive and safe method to perform hysterectomy for large uteri.
