Abstract
Background. To analyze risk factors, complications and pregnancy outcomes of patients with placenta previa. Methods. The study involved a retrospective analysis of 98 cases of placenta previa that were compared with the control group of 261 patients who delivered by Cesarean section due to fetus breech presentation in Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas klinikos Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology between 2018 and 2020. Placenta previa was complicated by abnormal placentation (p < 0.001), bleeding in the second half of pregnancy (p < 0.001), preterm birth (p < 0.001), massive bleeding during cesarean section (p < 0.001), peripartum hysterectomy and perinatal death. Conclusions. Placenta previa risk factors are advanced maternal age, parity, previous cesarean delivery, infertility treatment, surgical interventions of the uterus. Placenta previa is associated with the abnormally invasive placenta, bleeding in the second half of pregnancy, preterm birth, massive bleeding during cesarean section, hysterectomy and perinatal death.
