PREVENTIVE CHILDREN HEALTH EXAMINATIONS IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE

Abstract

Aim and tasks. To select and analyze research articles which describe children preventive programs in primary care setting. To evaluate what preventive programs are performed in Lithuania and abroad, and which programs are performed by family medicine doctor and which are performed by pediatrician, and to assess whether the mental health screening is performed. Methods. A systematic review was performed using PubMed search system in electronic MEDLINE data base, choosing articles written in English published from 2010–01–01 until 2019–12–31, which described children from ages 0 month to 18 year old, undergoing preventive programs in primary care settings, which are performs by family medicine doctor or pediatrician. Research results. In systematic review 6 research articles were included, which made a total of 134,908 patients. The preventive programs of physical health were described in 3 articles – vision examination, HIV and latent tuberculosis infection preventive examination. Mental health screening were described in 3 articles – behavioral problems, anxiety and depression, and suicide risk examinations. Conclusion. After analyzing scientific articles, it can be stated that children preventive programs in primary care settings are performed by family medicine doctor or pediatrician worldwide. In Lithuania, preventive programs of physical health are performed, preventive programs of mental health are not performed as in the rest of the world. Recommendations. Perform more studies in which preventive programs are performed by a family medicine doctor. Perform studies in the same countries only in different clinics and evaluate and compare obtained results. Perform more studies with mental health preventive programs.
