Subhyaloid Hemorrhage During Pregnancy: A Case Report
Abstract
Subhyaloid hemorrhage is a rare but vision-threatening condition that may occur during pregnancy due to Valsalva retinopathy. Sudden elevation of intrathoracic or intra-abdominal pressure may cause retinal capillary rupture and blood accumulation in the macular region. We present a case of a 27-year-old woman at 33 weeks of gestation who developed subhyaloid hemorrhage following a vomiting episode. Timely Nd:YAG laser hyaloidotomy resulted in significant visual recovery. The mode of delivery was individualized according to the risk of recurrent bleeding.
Key words: subhyaloid hemorrhage, Valsalva retinopathy, delivery management.
