MORTALITY-REDUCING EFFECT OF FLUTICASONE FUROATE / UMECLIDINIUM / VILANTEROL IN THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH COPD
Abstract
This article reviews the benefits of single-inhaler triple therapy with fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol (FF/UMEC/VI) in the treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with a focus on its impact on exacerbation rates and mortality. Based on the GOLD 2026 recommendations and key clinical trials, triple therapy is an important treatment strategy for patients whose disease is not adequately controlled with dual therapy. The IMPACT trial emonstrated that FF/UMEC/VI significantly reduces the risk of all-cause mortality. At the same time, real-world data confirm lower exacerbation rates and reduced mortality risk compared with budesonide/glycopyrrolate/formoterol (BUD/GLY/FORM). The use of triple therapy in a single inhaler is associated with improved treatment adherence and better clinical outcomes. Thus, FF/UMEC/VI represents an effective COPD treatment option for patients requiring escalation from dual therapy.
