LONG TERM HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH PREMATURE OVARIAN INSUFFICIENCY
Abstract
Premature ovarian insufficiency is a rare but important cause of sex hormone deficiency and infertility in young women. If left untreated or improperly treated, this condition can cause many long-term negative consequences for a woman’s health, including exhausting menopausal symptoms, decreased bone mineral density and increased risk of fractures, early progression of cardiovascular disease, and impaired cognitive function. Proper treatment with hormone replacement therapy is essential when improving the quality of life and reducing the risks associated with this condition. Although there is insufficient evidence from studies in this young group of women, given the potential risks, hormone replacement therapy is encouraged to be started at a time of the diagnosis and to be continued at least until the age of natural menopause.
