Abstract

This is a review paper about asymptomatic bacteriuria and lower urinary tract infection in non-pregnant women, its risk factors, diagnostic evaluation and management. Measures to prevent recurrent cystitis are also discussed in detail, including non-antimicrobial treatment modalities and low-dose antibiotic prophylaxis. The principles of catheter-associated cystitis treatment are reviewed.
