Abstract
Aim. To discuss preeclampsia and its complication - heart failure, on the basis of a clinical case and scientific literature. Methods. A clinical case of preeclampsia complicated by acute heart failure was described and a review of the scientific literature was prepared based on scientific articles published in PubMed database from 2015 to 2023. The clinical case was described by retrospective analysis of the medical history. Results. Preeclampsia can be complicated by acute heart failure, which is diagnosed on the basis of complaints, clinical, laboratory and instrumental investigations. It is treated with oxygen therapy, intravenous diuretics, antihypertensives, thromboembolism prophylaxis is ensured. In the postnatal period, it is important to measure blood pressure at home and, if necessary, to take antihypertensive medication. Long-term outpatient follow-up is important to prevent further progression of cardiovascular disease. Conclusions. Early diagnosis of preeclampsia and heart failure, timely applied treatment and long-term follow-up observation of such patients may help to prevent further progression of cardiovascular pathologies.
