PARATHYROID ADENOMA DURING PREGNANCY: A CLINICAL CASE
Abstract
Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common disorder of parathyroid gland function. Parathyroid adenoma (PA) during pregnancy is a rather rare condition, the diagnosis and treatment of which pose a complex challenge. This article describes a 32-year-old patient who was diagnosed with PA before pregnancy, but surgery was not performed and treatment was not administered due to the absence of organ damage (kidneys, intestines, bones). During pregnancy, the patient developed hypercalcemia due to hyperparathyroidism, which, even though not very significant, contributed to pregnancy and delivery complications – preeclampsia developed, placental insufficiency occurred, fetal growth slowed down, and due to deteriorating fetal condition, the pregnancy ended in premature birth via cesarean section.
