EVALUATION OF COLPOSCOPIC EXAMINATION CRITERIA IN LITHUANIAN MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS ACCORDING TO THE QUALITY INDICATORS PROVIDED BY THE EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF COLPOSCOPISTS
Abstract
Aim: to assess colposcopy criteria in Lithuanian hospitals using quality indicators defined by the European Federation for Colposcopy. Methods: Retrospective study was performed in three out of five largest hospitals in Lithuania. The study included 93 case reports. 5 core and 10 extended quality indicators determined by the EFC were used to assess colposcopic examinations. Results: Every hospital reached one different aim of the core indicators. Three aims for the extended quality indicators were reached in hospitals B and C – all of the cases had recorded treatment type, excision length and histological diagnosis. As for hospital A – all cases had recorded treatment type and histological diagnosis. Only one of the core quality indicators, diagnostic biopsies taken at colposcopy with minor or major changes, and two of the extended quality indicators, recorded treatment type and documented histological diagnosis, have reached EFC aims in 95% of the population. Conclusions: In 95% of the population, only one core and two extended quality indicators have reached the EFC aims. None of the hospitals have reached all the EFC aims for core and extended quality indicators.
