GENDER INCONGRUENCE AND HORMONE TREATMENT
Abstract
In August 2022, a description of the diagnosis and treatment of gender incongruence was approved, regulating the provision of diagnostic and medical treatment services for adults suspected or diagnosed with gender identity disorder (transsexuality) according to ICD-10-AM, designated by code F64.0. The prevalence of gender incongruence in Lithuania is unknown. However, global survey data indicate that 0.3% to 0.5% of adults and 1.2% to 2.7% of children and adolescents self-identify as transgender. Obstetrician-gynecologists are part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to these patients. Therefore, it is crucial to become familiar with treatment and follow-up recommendations, anticipated and adverse effects, as well as potential complications.
