A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CESAREAN SECTION RISK FACTORS AND MATERNAL AGE TRENDS AMONG PRIMIPAROUS WOMEN: DATA FROM 2011–2013 AND 2021–2023
Abstract
Aim of the study. To evaluate the association between maternal age and the frequency of cesarean
section (CS), comorbidities, and pregnancy-related complications among primiparous women at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, during 2011–2013 and 2021–2023. Methods. A retrospective study was conducted, including 8281 primiparous women. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 30.0.0. A significance level of p <0,05 was applied. Results. Over the study period, the proportion of women younger than 20 and those aged 20–34 significantly decreased, while the number of women aged ≥35 increased (p <0.05). Older primiparas (≥35 years) were more likely to have comorbidities, pregnancy-related complications, and undergo CS more often compared to younger women (p <0.05). Conclusions. 1. Comparing the periods 2011–2013 and 2021–2023, the number of primiparous women aged 35 and older increased, while the number of those younger than 35 decreased. 2. Cesarean section rate was higher in primiparous women aged 35 and older compared to those younger than 20 and those aged 20–34. 3. Primiparous women aged 35 and older were more frequently diagnosed with various comorbidities and pregnancy-related conditions compared to younger primiparous women.
