Abstract

Aim. To determine the professional values of midwives. Professional values are highly dependent on the extent to which an individual is dependent on other instances, institutions, or is self-employed. It has been found that at the individual level, professional values tend to arise from the need for and existence of personal values rather than from the need to work for an organization. For organizations and institutions, values tend to stem from certain aspects of utility, such as profit, collaboration, communication, renewal, or making new acquaintances. At the societal level, meanwhile, values emerge from a mix of personal and professional values, with social aspects intertwined with personal values. The aim of this article is to investigate and analyze the professional values of midwives. An instantaneous survey was conducted with a written questionnaire. 147 midwives working in Kaunas city maternity hospitals were interviewed.
