There are possible mechanisms of interaction between COCP and development of depression, and the importance of earlier mental health disorders regarding impact of COCP on pshycological well-being given in this review. The authors searched for articles on the influence of COCP to occurrence of depressive symptoms, development of depression, worsening of a mental state in PubMed database. Taking COCP among teenagers is related to progression of depressive disorders, greater risk of commiting a suicide, earlier necessity of antidepressive drugs. The influence of COCP on emotional well-being of young women depends on the composition of COCP. Progestins – norethistherone, levonorgestrel or desogestrel decrease, while lynestrenol or drospirenone increase the risk of depressive disorders. Hence, COCP impact the emotional well-being of a women. Nevertheless, it seems safe to prescribe COCP after getting thorough anamnesis of a patient and choosing appropriate composition of COCP.
