OVARIAN ENDOMETRIOID CYST: POSSIBILITIES OF MALIGNANCY

Abstract

Objective. The objective of this article is to review the potential for endometrioid cyst malignancy and the main diagnostic aspects of endometriosis-induced ovarian cancer that have an impact on clinical practice. Methods. The presantion of a clinical case and research that has been done on endometrioma malignancy risk, risk factors, diagnosis and prevention from November 2020 until February 2021 through search in Pubmed, SpringerLink, ScienceDirect, BMJ Journal and other databases. Results. 30 literature sources were analysed, odds ratio of endometrioma malignancy ranges from 1,34-2,56. Endometrioma is best monitored for the first 10 years after diagnosing endometriosis to prevent malignancy. Endometriomas have a higher risk of malignancy in menopause. Conclusions. Endometriomas have risk of malignancy that require close monitoring and timely decision for surgical intervention.
