WOMEN’S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT POSTPARTUM SEXUAL LIFE

Abstract

Aim. To analyse primiparous and multigravida women’s knowledge about postpartum sexual life. Methods. The anonymous survey of pregnant women was performed in November 2020–February 2021 in online social network “Facebook”, in the group “Nėštumas, Nėštukės, Mamytės”. Study participants were 190 pregnant women. Results. Most primiparous and multigravida women were aware of many ways to improve their postpartum sexual life. A large part of primiparous pregnant women did not know that during breastfeeding women can feel vagina dryness and pain during sexual intercourse, that both after natural birth and after caesarean section a woman may experience difficulties in her sexual life. The most part of multigravida women did not know that during breastfeeding period libido can decrease. Conclusions. Among primiparous pregnant women and multigravida, no significant differences in their knowledge on postpartum sexual life were found, however, primiparous pregnant women were significantly more often aware of lubricants increasing comfort of sexual intercourse.
