Abstract

Congenital Herpes simplex infection is rare despite the great prevalence of virus among adults. This article presents a clinical case of congenital Herpes simplex infection where mother had no infection symptoms, pregnancy period and delivery were normal and newborn was born with Herpes simplex infection. At the early stage of disease, the newborn was present only with unspecific symptoms and after a few days it evolved to the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and death. The article includes literature review describing the prevalence of Herpes simplex infection, its clinical expression, prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
