Abstract

Umbilical cord clamping is always performed at the birth of a newborn, but some specialists do it by the early method (early umbilical cord clamping) and others by the late method (delayed clamping). However, the benefits and risks of these methods are often overlooked. This article discusses the influence of early and delayed umbilical cord clamping on neonatal hematological parameters and nervous system development, as well as describes recommendations on when and which technique is effective to use. Methods. Based on the keywords in the PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library database, 20 studies, that met the criteria for inclusion, were analysed.
